Know Before You Go

Indivisible LYH’s second annual march against voter suppression is THREE days away! On Saturday, we hope to welcome many new people into our movement, and increase voter engagement across Central Virginia. Donald Trump hopes to suppress the vote in November. But he is only as powerful as the loyalty of those in Congress. It is the responsibility of the American people to turn out in record numbers this year. We have the power!

Make sure to bring a friend with you. Restoring accountability in our government is going to take every person.

Location: Miller Park (2100 Park Avenue, Lynchburg)

What to Bring

• Sign with a message that relates to voter suppression and/or John Lewis’ legacy**

• Water

• Sun Protection

• A Friend

• Optional: Folding chair (during cookout)

• Optional: Bring a side dish to share at our post-march cookout.

  **Sticks and poles are banned from public protests within the Commonwealth of Virginia. If you bring one or more signs attached to poles, one of our volunteers will request that you return them to your car or leave them at our information table during the event.

Marching Route

Our march is a fairly-flat, one mile loop that roughly follows the perimeter of Miller Park. We will begin at the flagpole which is near the large pavilion (green octagon on the map).

• Orange lines reflect the route of our march.

• Purple lines show the return route for those who need to head back early.

Directions

• Walk along Grove Street to Park Avenue.

• Turn left on Park Avenue and head toward Memorial Avenue.

• Turn left at Memorial Avenue and proceed to Wadsworth.

• Turn left at Park View Community MIssion to go down Wadsworth Street**.

• At Fort Avenue**, turn left and proceed to Langhorne Road.

• At the traffic circle, turn left onto Park Avenue.

• Turn in to the Miller Park Pool parking lot and walk along the path toward the larve pavilion.

NOTE: Water will be available at volunteer stations along the march and also at our first aid station near the pavilion.

**WARNING: There are two small sections of our march (on Wadsworth and on Fort) that do not have sidewalks. At these locations, please remain in a single file line and follow guidance from marshalls.

Alternative to the March

We invite participants with mobility restrictions to line Park Avenue. Additionally, our event headquarters (large pavilion) is shaded.

In Case of Emergency

Our safety marshalls will be wearing purple vests during the event. They have been trained in emergency protocols and de-escalation strategies. Please follow their guidance and instructions at all times.
